Born in 1993 in New York, Tara Violet Niami is an award-winning photographer and cinematographer from LA. She is a dual citizen in the US & UK. Tara has an MFA from American Film Institute Conservatory in Cinematography and a BFA in photography at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. 

Tara was most recently the cinematographer of Ramin Niami’s independent feature film Eye Without A Face which will be completed later this year. She has also directed and shot a number of narrative shorts. documentary films, music videos, a TV pilot and recently a video podcast for comedian/musician Reggie Watts. She has shot on multiple formats including: 35mm film, super 16 film, and digital.

In addition to working as a cinematographer, Tara has worked as the production still photographer on the Focus Features film The Mustang (released March, 2019), Amir Naderi's film Magic Lantern (which premiered Fall 2018 at the Venice Film Festival), and Find My Daughter a Lifetime film (to be released). 

Last year, she had a solo fine art photographic show at The Lodge gallery in Los Angeles, entitled “Self Reflections-2008-2018” of self portraiture over the course of 10 years. Tara’s photographic work has been shown in group shows in London and Berlin been published in such publications as Elle France, Vanity Fair Spain, VICE, Le Monde, the book If You Leave covered by Dazed & Confused, and more. 

Tara is currently working on a personal analogue photographic project shot in the UK, inspired by queens & warriors of the Middle Ages, which she plans to make into an exhibition and book.
