Born in 1993 in New York, Tara Violet Niami is an award-winning photographer and cinematographer from LA. She is a dual citizen in the US & UK. Tara has an MFA from American Film Institute Conservatory in Cinematography and a BFA in photography at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
Tara was most recently the cinematographer of Ramin Niami’s independent feature film Eye Without Film which will be completed later this year. She has also directed and shot a number of narrative shorts and documentary films. She has shot on multiple formats including: 35mm film, super 16 film, and digital.
In addition to cinematographer, Tara has worked most recently as the production still photographer on the Focus Features film The Mustang (released March, 2019), Amir Naderi's film Magic Lantern (which premiered fall, 2018 at the Venice Film Festival), and Find My Daughter a Lifetime film (to be released).
Last year, she had a solo photographic show at The Lodge gallery in Los Angeles, entitled “Self Reflections-2008-2018” of self portraiture over the course of 10 years. Tara’s photographic work has been shown in group shows in London and Berlin been published in such publications as Elle France, Vanity Fair Spain, VICE, Le Monde, the book If You Leave covered by Dazed & Confused, and more.
Tara is now embarking on a personal analogue photographic project in the UK inspired by queens & warriors of the Middle Ages which she plans to make into an exhibition and book.
